Lower Owens River Wild Trout Section:
1-December-2011
The flow rate is 140 CFS. The fishing has been
good. With mid-day being the best. Some flies to use
would be Tiger midges, gold ribbed hares ears,
ultra midges, pheasant tails in sizes 16-18 and
wd 40's. For those of you that want to tug
streamers, a 20-25 foot tip and 150-200 grains is good.
Woolly buggers, spruce-a-boos and matukas are
good choices. |

Drifting the Lower Owens River:
1-December-2011
Since the water has dropped the fishing has
picked up significantly. Wooly buggers, sprucaboo's, zoo cougars and hornbergs have been
doing the trick. Lure fishing has also
been productive. As always
lure fisherman are always welcome on my boat.

Owens River Gorge: 1-December-2011
Winter is probably the toughest time to fish here.
The water is cold and the fish are lethargic. However,
the fish are still willing to take just about anything.
No need to get down there early. Wait until it warms up
around mid-day |
|
East Walker River: 1-December-2011
The flows are at 25 cfs. Not much going on here. |
|
Crowley Lake: 1-December-2011
Closed until 28 April 2012 |
|
Pleasant Valley Reservoir:
1-December-2011
Tubing near the inlet has been very productive
using wooly buggers and matukas in olive and
black. Most of what is being caught is the
stockers. A 15' type III sink tip will do the
trick. Where the river starts to widen try
fishing with an indicator and midge. |
|
Hot Creek: 1-December-2011
The fishing here has been good. It is mainly all
subsurface bugs. Midges, pheasant tails, copper
johns and wd 40's to name just a few. |
|
Upper Owens River: Above Benton Crossing
Bridge:
1-December-2011
The flows below the Hot Creek confluence are 160
cfs and the fishing is good. There is an early
morning trico hatch followed by some blue
winged olives.
Nymphing with
pheasant tails, hares ears, tiger midges, tiger
midges and wd 40’s are worth a try.
Stripping wooly buggers, matukas or zoo cougars
would also be worth a try. I would have to say
that fishing toward the lake is better. They are
mostly stokers but they are eager to take the
fly and bend the rod. |
